Birch Grove Engineering was founded in 2022 in collaboration with its sister company, Birch Grove Architecture. Our vision is to provide a complete support package for anyone interested in starting a construction project. We believe this close working partnership of structural engineering and architecture provides a solid basis for collaborative planning from the very start of your project meaning that a holistic view can be taken and that a single team captures all aspects of the construction project.
However, if you already have a preferred architect or contractor you’re working with, we’re always pleased to work alongside them and will do all we can to ensure you have a smooth and stress-free process.
At Birch Grove Engineering, we are passionate about sustainable development. It’s becoming apparent in the industry that the environmental impact of construction needs to be considered just as much as the financial and health and safety needs. We strive to stay on the cutting edge of sustainable construction and ensure that the requirements of the project are married to the buildability and efficiency of the proposed construction.
Accountability is a core tenet of our practice, and we prioritise clear communication and explanations of our decisions and processes so that you can have confidence that your interests are being cared for.
Jonny graduated from, and now serves as a lecturer at, the University of Sheffield in 2014 with a Master’s Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering. Jonny’s passion for engineering started with, and centres around, an excitement for problem solving and he thrives on developing elegant solutions to unique engineering challenges.
Jonny has over a decade of experience working on a broad spectrum of engineering projects in the residential, commercial, industrial, ecclesiastic, and water/wastewater sectors. He founded Birch Grove Engineering in 2022 with a desire to create a customer focused engineering firm which puts clear communication and efficient designs the heart of the company.
Jonny also spends some of his time teaching students at the University of Sheffield, specialising in the Reuse of Existing Buildings and leading students in large design projects. When not working he either spends his time with his young family exploring Sheffield, at his church, or out running in the Peak District.
Georges moved to Sheffield in 2011 to study Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield and is now a senior engineer with a drive to see sustainable development championed within the industry. Before joining Birch Grove Engineering Georges spent many years training, leading and instilling these principles in young engineers at a medium sized multi-disciplinary consultancy and now brings those skills to this design team.
Georges has a wealth of experience within the residential sector working with many of the large national house builders and currently divides his time between engineering projects and developing industry-leading software which will provide substantial financial and carbon savings in engineering projects.
Outside of work Georges enjoys exploring the beautiful outdoor spaces Sheffield and the Peak District have to offer with his new puppy.
